Diesel Technicians need mechanical skills and must have an aptitude for increasing their skills to expand the kinds of jobs they can perform.  A be-of-service attitude is also important when responding to the Service Consultants, as customer satisfaction is so vital to this service business.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND OPERATIONS FOR POSITION:

• Perform diagnosis, repair and maintenance work on vehicles and equipment in accordance with the time schedules assigned by service management.
   
• Suggest additional work and identify safety issues by communicating with the Service Consultants so the customer can be notified.  Use a 25-point inspection.
   
• Make certain that the work assignment is correct.  Ask for clarification if there are any questions.  Road test the vehicle to verify customer complaint.
   
• Diagnose customer complaint and check vehicle for additional work that can be sold.
   
• Create a labor estimate to repair the vehicle using a truck and van labor time guide.  Include a complete and accurate list of parts and fluids needed.
   
• Record all test results, processes, parts and fluids used in the course of vehicle repair.
   
• Road test the vehicles after repairs are made to verify the correction of customer complaint.
   
• Maintain tools and equipment and notify service management if tool replacement or repair is needed.
   
• Follow safety practices, ask for help when safety is at risk and avoid damaging parts and vehicles.
   
• Maintain cleanliness of work area.
   
• Maintain cleanliness of the customer vehicle.
   
• Notify Service Consultants if delays are expected or if parts are needed.
   
• Ask for assignment if out of work or if unable to complete a job.
   
• Give special attention to repeat repairs so the problem can be corrected and future comebacks can be avoided.
   
• Attend training meetings, classes and safety meetings as required.
   
• Make suggestions that will help your department do a better job for our customers.
   
• Assist other Technicians when safety can be enhanced.
